**Sugar Price Hike: Mill Owners and Major Dealers Summoned to Islamabad**

**ISLAMABAD:** The Ministry of Production has summoned sugar mill owners and major dealers to Islamabad following a sharp increase in sugar prices during Ramadan 2025, sources told ARY News on Sunday.

Sources indicate that the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow and is a direct response to the recent price surge.

The Ministry of Production stated that an agreement had been reached with the sugar mills association, stipulating that prices would remain stable in exchange for permission to export sugar.

Despite this agreement, the price of sugar subsequently climbed to Rs170 per kilogram after exports commenced.

Authorities have reportedly compiled a list of individuals suspected of market manipulation, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible for price rising.

The summons and investigation follow a directive, from Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif to crack down on sugar hoarding.

On March 14, the prime minister that ordered crackdown over increasing the price.

PM Shehbaz chaired a meeting with high level officals to overview suger prices and supply.

The Current consumption, Supply and pricing of suger detailed report was presented to prime minister.

PM Shehbaz ordered strict actions against artificial shortages and the one involved in increasing price in Country.

He emphasized that actions like suger hoarding and use tradings to increase price would be tolerated.

Prime minister ordered to strick action against suger mafia and profiteers , also asked to submit final report.

Furthermore, he instructed officials to maintain close oversight of sugar consumption and supply, with a focus on ensuring transparency and accountability.
