Karachi Police Assault: SSP Central Apologizes to Fruit Seller After Viral Video

**SSP Central Meets Fruit Seller Beaten Up by Karachi Cops**

A disturbing incident of police misconduct in Karachi has led to swift action and a public apology. SSP Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui met with a fruit seller who was harassed and assaulted by Karachi police officials on Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan.

The meeting followed the circulation of a viral video showing four police officers forcibly taking melons from the vendor’s cart, using abusive language, and issuing threats near Qalandria Chowk. The video sparked widespread public condemnation.

SSP Zeeshan Siddiqui promptly suspended all four officers involved. He then invited the fruit seller to his office, presented him with a bouquet, and personally inquired about the incident.

During the meeting, SSP Siddiqui assured the vendor of the police department’s support. “The Sindh Police stand with you. This was an individual act, not representative of the entire force. There are good and bad people everywhere,” he stated. He also detailed the disciplinary actions being taken against the officers.

The incident underscores persistent concerns about police misconduct in Pakistan. Public outcry over such events often forces authorities to take immediate action to maintain public trust.

Efforts like disciplinary measures and direct engagement with affected individuals are considered crucial steps towards police reform. This is particularly relevant for the Karachi police, who have faced similar criticism in the past, making accountability vital.

Earlier, another viral video had shown a Karachi police officer and three others assaulting the same fruit seller in front of his young daughter. The officers had taken a melon without permission, and when the vendor objected, they began harassing him. This initial incident led to the dismissal of Constable Zafar and the suspension of the three other officers, further fueling public outrage.
