## IPPs, CPPA Move NEPRA for Power Tariff Revision

Seven Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) are seeking changes to electricity tariffs in Pakistan. According to reports, both the IPPs and the CPPA have submitted petitions to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) requesting the revisions.

The IPPs filing petitions were established under the 2002 Power Policy. These include Nishat Chunian Power, Nishat Power, Narowal Energy Limited, Liberty Power Tech Limited, Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited, Sapphire Electric Power Limited, and Saif Power Limited.

NEPRA will hold a hearing on March 24 to consider the requests.

The hearing will focus on several key areas. These include changes to the methodology used to calculate the exchange rate difference between the Pakistani Rupee and the US Dollar. The “Take-or-Pay” system’s payment structure, a common arrangement in the power sector, will also be reviewed. Additionally, NEPRA will examine the existing 0.90% insurance cap on Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) costs.

The moves come as the power sector is going under changes. On March 3, Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari met with international development partners, including representatives from the World Bank, IMF, ADB, and others.
