**ISLAMABAD:** The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), the main opposition party, announced on Tuesday that it will boycott today’s session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security.

PTI leader Salman Akram Raja, speaking at a press conference, called for a comprehensive national dialogue to develop a strategy against terrorism and to maintain law and order. He insisted on the release of PTI’s founder on parole to ensure his participation in this process.

Party leader Shibli Faraz stated that PTI leaders had been denied access to consult with the founder, leading to the party’s decision to boycott the meeting. Omar Ayub echoed this sentiment, calling the denial of access an “injustice.”

Veteran politician Mehmood Achakzai also called for a national jirga (a traditional assembly of leaders) that would include the PTI founder.

The Parliament’s National Security Committee meeting is scheduled for today. Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq convened the session at the request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The in-camera session will feature a briefing by the military leadership on the current security situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Members of the parliamentary committee, relevant federal cabinet members, and leaders or representatives of all parliamentary parties have been invited to attend the session at the National Assembly Hall.

The military leadership will brief attendees on the rise in terrorism in KP and Balochistan, explaining the factors contributing to the recent increase in such incidents.

The decision to convene this high-level security discussion follows a new wave of terrorist incidents targeting security forces in the two provinces.
