Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has strongly criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its absence from a recent meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security.

Taking to social media platform X, Bilawal pointed out that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had a history of not attending parliamentary security meetings during his tenure, including those addressing terrorism, Kashmir, and Indian aggression.

“Today Imran Khan is not a member of parliament and this was a meeting of the National Security Committee of parliament. Pathetic PTI would insist he attends now,” Bilawal stated. He emphasized the “patriotic duty” of all Pakistanis to prioritize the country’s interests over political maneuvering, especially during times of conflict.

The in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security was held in Islamabad, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, parliamentary committee members, political leaders, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, key ministers, and senior military and intelligence officials in attendance. The PTI-led opposition alliance, however, chose to boycott the session.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman also expressed his disappointment over PTI’s absence. Sources report that during the meeting, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman stated he would have advised PTI to attend had they consulted him.

He further underscored the need for consistency in state policies, asserting that national interests should always be paramount. He cautioned against Pakistan’s involvement in external conflicts, referencing past decisions, such as Pakistan’s participation in the war against Afghanistan and its alliance with the US post-9/11, as detrimental to the country.

PTI had previously announced their intention to boycott the Parliamentary Committee on National Security session.
