KP Govt to Launch Universal Digital Payment System: “Cashless Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”

**KP Goes Cashless: Universal Digital Payment System on the Horizon**

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is taking a bold step into the digital future, announcing plans to launch a province-wide Universal Digital Payment System. This groundbreaking initiative, branded “Cashless Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” aims to revolutionize how transactions are handled, affecting everything from government services to everyday business dealings.

A detailed strategy is in place, outlining specific roles and deadlines for various departments, institutions, and district administrations to ensure a smooth rollout.

Under the new system, digital payments will become the standard for all types of transactions, encompassing both private and public sectors, and ranging from small vendors to large corporations. This shift promises to simplify payment processes, benefiting both businesses and the general public.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is poised to be a pioneer in Pakistan, becoming the first province to implement such a comprehensive cashless system. The Universal Digital Payment System will be developed in partnership with mobile companies offering online payment services.

Importantly, the system is designed to function even without an internet connection, offering offline payment capabilities. A key part of the implementation involves extensive data collection at the village council level, ensuring that all businesses, including shops, stalls, vendors, and kiosks, are integrated into the system.

The “Cashless Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” initiative will mandate the display of QR codes for digital payments across all businesses, public transport, and commercial centers.

To guarantee the system’s success, a strong regulatory framework will be put in place. District administrations will lead a structured mechanism to oversee the initiative’s implementation, supported by a widespread public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the new system.
