**Karachi Commissioner Bans Public Rallies, Sit-Ins**
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has imposed an immediate ban on public rallies and sit-ins in the city.
The ban, announced on Monday, comes at the recommendation of the Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi, citing the prevailing law and order situation and the need to protect public safety.
A notification from the commissioner’s office confirmed the ban, stating that it was implemented in response to a request from AIG Karachi.
The notification states: “In exercise of powers under section 144 (6) Cr. P.C, delegated by Home Department, Government of Sindh… I Syed Hassan Naqvi, Commissioner Karachi Division, hereby impose a complete ban on any type of protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, rallies and assembly of more than five (05) persons within the Karachi Division, with immediate effect, for 24.3.2025.”
The ban is immeditate for March 24,2025.
The commissioner has previously used Section 144 to regulate heavy traffic movement in Karachi, aiming to improve public safety amidst rising fatalities. That previous restriction, implemented in February, prohibited dumpers from operating between 10 PM and 6 AM, while allowing heavy vehicles carrying construction materials to use designated routes.
