**ISLAMABAD:** Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has scheduled a Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) meeting for April 8th.

The primary agenda of the JCP meeting is to consider the elevation of two judges from the Lahore High Court (LHC) to the Supreme Court.

The Commission will review the names of five senior LHC judges, ultimately selecting two for promotion.

This meeting comes amid internal calls for a pause on new appointments. Four Supreme Court judges—Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Ayesha Malik, and Justice Athar Minallah—previously wrote to CJP Afridi, urging him to suspend new appointments pending a decision on the 26th Amendment case.

These judges voiced concerns that new appointments could be seen as “court packing,” potentially creating controversy and undermining the court’s legitimacy. They also raised issues regarding alterations to the Islamabad High Court’s seniority list before judges had taken their oaths.

The Supreme Court’s seniority list has recently been updated. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is now listed as the senior-most judge, following CJP Yahya Afridi.
