ISLAMABAD: The government is reportedly in consultations to convene a meeting of the Parliamentary National Security Committee, likely to take place in the coming week, sources revealed on Sunday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has begun consultations about holding an in-camera joint session, effectively transforming both houses of Parliament into a special security committee.
The closed-door meeting is anticipated for Wednesday or Thursday.
The Prime Minister, top military leaders, and heads of intelligence agencies are expected to attend the meeting.
The military leadership will brief lawmakers on the increasing incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The briefing will address the reasons behind the recent surge, address concerns, and discuss future strategies.
The decision to convene this high-level security discussion follows a renewed wave of terrorist attacks targeting security forces in the two provinces.
