Hassan Nawaz Listed as UK “Tax Defaulter” Over £9.4M Unpaid Taxes, Faces £5.2M Penalty

**Hassan Nawaz Declared ‘Tax Defaulter’ in UK**

**LONDON:** The UK government has officially listed Hassan Nawaz, son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, as a “tax defaulter.”

The update appears on the UK government’s official website.

Details indicate that Hassan Nawaz failed to pay £9.4 million in taxes for the period between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016.

As a result, UK tax authorities have imposed a penalty of £5.2 million on Nawaz. Information regarding this action has been made public on the government’s website.

Legal experts note that even though Nawaz declared bankruptcy some months ago, UK authorities may still be able to recover the penalty. This is because tax fraud fines are not waived under UK law, regardless of bankruptcy status.

There has been no official response from Hassan Nawaz’s legal team.

Last year, Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, were acquitted by an accountability court in the Avenfield, Flagship, and Al-Azizia NAB references. Judge Nasir Javed Rana of the Islamabad accountability court announced the verdict, clearing them in the three accountability references. Earlier, the court had granted bail to both Hassan and Hussain after they surrendered before the court.
