PTI’s Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi Petition IHC to Suspend £190m Al-Qadir Case Conviction

**PTI Founder and Bushra Bibi Seek Suspension of £190m Case Conviction in IHC**

ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to request the suspension of their convictions in the £190 million case.

Through their lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, they filed petitions arguing that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) abused its authority and that the convictions stemmed from incomplete investigations.

The petitions highlight a key omission: the failure to secure a declaration from the National Crime Agency (NCA). They further assert that NCA officials weren’t even investigated.

Additionally, the petitions contend that the prosecution did not present complete evidence, leading to a rushed conviction. They request the suspension of the conviction and bail for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi pending the final decision on their appeal.

The petitions guarantee the court that, upon suspension of their conviction, the accused will attend every hearing of the appeal.

Earlier, an Accountability Court in Rawalpindi sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years in jail in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. Bushra Bibi received a seven-year sentence.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana delivered the verdict at Adiala Jail, where both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were present.

The court also levied fines of Rs. 1 million and Rs. 500,000 on Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, respectively, with additional prison time for non-payment.Specifically six-month and three month. Bushra Bibi was taken into custody from the courtroom.

Furthermore, the court ordered the government to take custody of Al-Qadir University.

**Al-Qadir University Case Background**

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) initiated an investigation into Imran Khan, his wife, and others concerning alleged gains of hundreds of canals of land for the Al Qadir University Trust, purportedly causing a £190 million loss to the national treasury.

The charges state that the former prime minister and other accused parties allegedly adjusted Rs50 billion (equivalent to £190 million at the time) sent by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.

NAB filed a corruption reference against Imran Khan and seven others, including his wife, in connection with the Al-Qadir University.
