Starlink Pakistan Launch: License, Timeline, & Pricing Details Revealed

The process for Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, to become available in Pakistan is moving forward. According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), Starlink has already received a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Sources within the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) indicate that the next step is issuing a license to Starlink. The PTA anticipates it will take about six months for Starlink to be fully operational in Pakistan, delivering internet directly to users via its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.

The licensing fee payable to the PTA is $640,000.  Starlink has already filed its application, along with its technical and financial strategies, according to PTA officials.

The PTA is internally reviewing all aspects of Starlink’s licensing application. The final decision rests with the PTA chairman and its three members, with sources suggesting the license could be granted within the next few weeks.

Once licensed, Starlink can begin accepting pre-orders from Pakistani customers and install the necessary equipment nationwide.  Starlink plans to install two to three ground stations within Pakistan.

The launch of Starlink has potential to make internet connectivity available in areas such as remote regions where there is no cable or cell towers. Starlink pricing in Pakistan is expected to be lower than in the US and other developed countries.
