**BANGKOK:** Good news for travelers planning a trip to Thailand! The Thai government has confirmed that the current visa-free tourist policy remains unchanged, for now.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the 60-day visa-free stay for eligible foreigners is still in effect. No new regulations shortening this period have been implemented.
According to Nikorndej Balankura, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tourists can continue to enjoy their travels under the existing visa-free arrangements.
However, the government *is* actively reviewing its tourist policy. This review is part of a broader effort to enhance security and address illegal activities in popular tourist destinations like Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, and Bangkok.
This clarification comes after recent reports suggested a possible reduction in the visa-free stay period from 60 to 30 days. Concerns have been raised about some foreigners engaging in unauthorized work or business activities without the necessary permits, leading to questions about the economic benefits of longer stays.
Last year, Thailand extended the visa-free stay to 60 days for citizens of 93 countries in a bid to stimulate tourism and economic growth. However, feedback from travel operators suggests that most tourists actually spend no more than 21 days in the country.
The government is continuing to weigh the pros and cons of the current tourist policy, and further updates will likely be announced in the future.
**Related:** For Pakistani citizens, Thailand has introduced an e-visa system, streamlining the application process. This means no more physical visits to the embassy – applications can be submitted conveniently online, with approvals typically granted within 14 working days. This further enhances the travel experience to Thailand, a country renowned for its rich history, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture.
